With reference to the comet, Mr. Thos. Florance, of Auckland, thus addresses the editor of the "Southern Cross," under date Oct. 27.:-- The course of the comet from the 16th to the 24th instant was very erratic, but from the 24th mat. to the 26th it has advanced in its orbit, direct, at a Perihelion rate ; from 25H ° to 261 ° R. A. and 1 ° 54' Decline, hence its eccentricity is 14£ ° « This agrees with that of 'Ehcke's Comet,' so named from that eminent professor of astronomy, of Berlin, -who first solved, in 1819, its .periodical return, — 1207 days. Further, this is about the period of its twelfth return since that yearr— i. c. 89-6 years.
