Oct. \S— Wonga Wanga % a. s,, A, Kennedy, for Wellington, with 14 bundles sheep skins. Passengers, — Messrs. Park, Swinbourne, IJyndon, Farmer, Brown, Bull and son. — T. H. FitzGerald, agent. TmE Wonga Wonga arrived on Monday morning, .after an abaenco of just fire weeks within one day. J3he> left on Saturday and made a fair passage up. We find that we were miß-led as to the cause of her detention — the fact being that Mr. Brigden, the haying resigned his situation, hiß Successor felt anxious, before taking charge, to have the boilers overhauled, The steamer was consequently laid up, and her boilers put in a

state of thorough >repair^-a ; process which occupied nearly three weeks, purely, however, the necessity for this might have- been forseen, and due^ notice given— the want of such intimation having led to the stay in town of at least twenty settlers, for periods averaging from 'a week to a fortnight. We believe the return of fh&Wonffa. this time may be expected in course of a fortnight from the day of her departure. The Ullen for Wellington and Henry for Auckland both sail this day— -the latter the bearer of the separation petition, and having on board about 18 privatesof the 65th, with women and children. The Lucy James, hence the 22nd ult., was 11 days on her passage to Wellington. She made Cape Palliser on the evening of the 23rd, but there encountered strong N. W. gales, which drove her out to sea.

The Salcombe Castle, with part of a cargo of sugar imported by Messrs. Stuart, Kinross, & Co., direct from Manilla, by the schooner Alexander, arrived in port yesterday. The enterprise on the part of that firm is a very spirited one, and will, we trust, yield an adequate return.
