Commercial Intelligence.

The customs revenue of the port of Napier — consisting nearly altogether of duties upon bonded goods — for the quarter just ended, is £925 4s. 4d., being £624 ss. 10d., in excess of the same quarter for 1857. The amount of collections for the first quarter in this year was £961 65., being £667 75., over that for the corresponding period in 1857.

The news from England respecting -wool and commercial matters in general, we regret to sey; is very unsatisfactory. The wool sales we- eto open on April 29, and a decline of lid. to 2d. per lb. was expected, although it was thought that there would be a disposition to hold, which with other circumstances might improve prices a litile. At Liverpool, prices bed given wsy, but the sales were principally confined to irferio? sorts. Money is said to be in greater demand, -but short biUs are still done at 2£, though 4£ and 5 is paid for 6 months paper. The Bank rate continues to be 3 per cent, but with no accommodation on pny tarms to the discount houses. The exports to the Australian colonies are at. leDgth cons'dei-ably re- .'■ duced, their value for the month of February 1858 being less by £2,024,024 than during the corresponding month in 1857, and althovgh some allowance must be made for reduction in prices, stall. .the difference iv quantities must be very large.
