The Wonga Wonga anchored off the harbour on Thursday morning at half past 1 ; having made the run from Wellington in 31| hours, including detention at Castle Point. The cause of her being so long beyond her time is the length of time required in effecting repairs, together with the bad weather experienced in Cook's Straits upon her subsequent voyage to Nelson and Wanganui. The Wonga left Wellington at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, arrived at Castle Point at £ past eight on Wednesday morning, landed passengers and cargo and took passengers on board, left again at 1 p.m with a fine southerly breeze. The Wonga steamed beautifully into the Eastern harbour about 10 on Thursday morning, and landed her cargo alongside FitzGerald' s wharf. Her boilers, since her last visit to this port, have been put in a state of thorough repair.
The Sea Serpent was sighted from the steamer soma miles to the Southward of Castle Point, beating to windward.
"We have to chronicle several sad disasters during the recent gales, and fear that many more will yet become known. The schooner Pelsart, bound to this port with firewood, was lost on Friday last in Lowry Bay, within "Wellington Heads. She was a total wreck, but all hands were saved. The English mail for Ahuriri was on board, and although saved, it has reached us per steamer in a very damaged condition. The Mary Jane from Manawatu, went ashore on the South Spit, Wanganui, and became a total wreck. And the Poi-t Glasgow, a vessel of 12 tons, bound from Port Cooper to Wellington with a cargo of grain had been totally wrecked at Fitzßoy Bay.
