WELLINGTON REFORM ASSOCIATION.
In order that the proceedings at the two meetings of Monday die 7th, and Tuesday the Sthinst., respectively, reports of which are subjoined, may be fully understood, we republish a resolution passed at a public meeting held in the Lyceum Theatre, on the 22nd October, 1857— Mr. Wm. Bowler in the chair. '•That the following are the chief objects of a Radical Reform of the Provincial Government, namely : — 1. "Economy in the administration of Public affairs, by the abolition of unnecessary Offices, and the reduction of excessive Salaries. 2. "A limit to the number of Membeis of Council holding paid Offices. •3. "Purity of Election, — All persons holding Government appointments to be restrained from canvassing or otherwise unduly interfering in Elections. 4. "The disposal of Public Lands on a system of deferred payments. 5. "A re-consideration of the system of Licensing Public Land as runs. . 6. "All transactions with regard to the disposal and occupation of the Public Lands to take place before an open Land Board. 7. " Public Works to be performed byContract, and the Tenders to be opened in ihe presence of the competitors. 8. " The establishment of elected Local Boards, having the management of Local affairs, and the expenditure of a Share of the Public Money in projjortion to the contribution of the Locality. 9. " The Public Accounts to be Audited by one person, not a member of the Council, who shall be appointed by the Council and hold his office during good behaviour. 10. "A re-consideration of the present scheme of Immigration."
