Province of Wellington,") to wit. 3 TIT HERE AS a Writ under the hand W of His Excellency Thomas Gore Browne, Commander of the Bath, Governor and Commander in Chief in and over the Colony of New Zealand, etc., bearing date the tenth day of August, one thousand eight hundred and fifty-seven, and under the Public Seal of the said Colony, hath been directed to me, John Curling Esquire, j Returning Officer for the Ahuriri District, I requiring and commanding me to cause to | be elected by the voters duly qualified for | that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner and form by Law prescribed, two legally qualified persons to serve as Members for the " Ahuriri District" in the Provincial Council of the Province of Wellington. Now therefore I, the said John Curling, Returning Officer for the Ahuriri District, do hereby, in pursuance of the said recited Writ, give notice that a Public Meeting of the Electors of the District of Ahuriri will be holden at the Resident Magistrate's Court at Napier, on Tuesday the third day of November next, at noon, for the purpose of nominating two persons to serve as Members for the "Ahuriri District" in the Provincial Council of the Province of Wellington, and in the event of a Poll being demanded for the Candidates or any of them, such Polling to take place on Tuesday the seventeenth (17) day of November next, at the Resident Magistrate's Court at Napier, aforesaid, and at the several Polling places throughout the District, the voting to commence at any time after nine o'clock in the said day, and to close at four o'clock in the afternoon of the same day. Dated at the Resident Magistrate's Court at Napier, this 21st day of October, 1857. JOHN CURLING, R.M. Returning Officer. PROVINCE OF WELLINGTON. Notice to In? migrants. THE Provincial Government of Wellington will, in pursuance of the Resolution of the Provincial Council, be prepared to convey to each Immigrant, (introduced under their Regulations) as soon as he shall have redeemed his Promissory Note or Notes, a quantity of land equal in value (at the rate of 10s. an acre) to one fourth of the amount of his Passage Money. For example : every Immigrant on redemption of his Promissory Note or Notes, will be entitled to receive ten acres of land for every Twenty Pounds he shall have paid on account of the Passage of himself and family. These grants of land will either he made out of blocks specially reserved for Immigration purposes in Small Farm and Agricultural Settlements, or in the immediate vicintiy of roads in process of construction ; or the Immigrant may select the quantity to which he shall be declared entitled out of any land open to purchase as Rural. In order to facilitate the location of Immigrants desirous of immediately settling upon land and of being employed on the Public Works, Reserves will be made wherever practicable, along or near each line of road, and will be laid off in Ten-acre Sections, which the Immigrants will be permitted at once to occupy, receiving a conveyance of the same as soon as they shall have paid the whole of their Passage Money. Parties desirous of availing themselves of this privilege in the block at present being surveyed in the Grey Town Settlement, are requested to make immediate application to the undersigned, who will give any further information that may be required.
