Most of the settlers are busily engaged, in preparations for she iring. and a few lr.ive already begun. The first load of wool readied town a few days ago ; and we lopthat, before many weeks are over' Napier will be the scene of bustling activity. The prospect of direct shipment per ' Southern Cross/ an. l of receiving, in return, supplies by the s.ims oppirtunity, is very cheering to the settlers — imouniiag, as it dnes, to eornmerci-il independence. T.ie arrivals' during, the past week have been the Shepherdess and Wonga Won^a from Wellington, the Daring from Auck^" land, and the Scamperdown from the Wairoi. The Salopian from Auckland and the Sei Sa-'peat fnm Wellington may also be daily exjjected. We subjoin the state of our markers, to which from thus to tim% we sh til make such ad di' ions as will render it more complete and of more general utility.
