NOVEMBER FROST AVERTED
HEAVY HAIL AT HAWERA. A low temperature during the night gave rise to fears of a severe frost, which was averted, however, by light air currents and one or two sharp showers towards morning. Shortly after seven'o’clock there was a heavy, downpour for a few minutes, followed j by hail, which remained in drifts along the south-west walls of buildings in Hawera and against fences. The sky cleared rapidly and the day was comparatively mild again following yesterday’s cold southerly snap.
