MR. H. G. DICKIE’S CAMPAIGN

ADDRESS TO KAI IWI ELECTORS. One of the best political meetings which have ever been held in Ivai Iwi was addressed by Mr H. G. Dickie, M.P., last night in the interests of the National Government. At its conclusion Mr Dickie was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence. His address followed the lines of his Kakaramea speech on Wednesday night, and was a strong defence of the actions of the Government during the crisis of the past four years. He maintained that the legislation passed, although it had proved unpopular in some quarters, had been absolutely necessary to save the country from disaster and the results had justified the means to achieve them. He referred to the recent increases and restoration of pensions and salaries, saying that it had not been possible to do it before March 31 because Parliament had not met. Mr Dickie satisfactorily qnswered a number of questions.
