SUBSIDIES FOR IMPROVEMENTS MACHINEEY AND BUILDINGS EXTENSION OF SCHEME, (By Telegraph—l’resa Association). PAPAEOA, Nov. 7. Details of the scheme approved by the Unemployment Board to assist farmers to purchase farm implements and machinery and to erect farm buildings were announced to-day by the Minister of Finance, the Kt. Hon. J. G. Coates. The new scheme is an extension of the existing B2 scheme, which provides for subsidies foi improvements to dairy farmtrs. The ex-, tension covers the granting of subsidies for the erection of woolslieds, implement sheds and other approved farm buildings and the payment of subsidies for farm and, orchard machincry and implements of New Zealand manufacture. The subsidy will apply to work commenced on or before Apia 30, 1030. . .. , . “The manufacture of agricultural implements is still languishing and after careful examination of the existing subsidy scheme, the board has come to°tlie conclusion that a large ' v ' olunic of employment will be stimulated both by this subsidy and by the extension of grants for farm buildings,” Air Coates said. , The amount of the subsidy on faun buildings would be S per cent, of the contract price or, if the work were -carried out by the fanner, 10 per_ cent, of the nett invoice cost of materials. The subsidy on implements would be £2 for the first £lO nett ihveice cost, exclusive of transport and installation charges, subsequently Is -Id in the £ up to £IOO, 8 per cent, up to £2OO and o per cent, of any amount in excess of £2OO. The necessary recommendation would have to be made by the Minister of Agriculture, as under the existing B'scheme,' before any subsidy could be granted. A full schedule of machinery to which the subsidy would apply wasbeing prepared arid would be available shortly. , “I should like to draw attention to the fact that subsidy schemes now apply to new dwellings and buildings to which no private gain is attached, said Air Coates, “such as churches, libraries, halls, extensions to and painting of' such buildings, and equipment of dairy factories and dairy farms, as well as the extension of such structures.” . __
