POSITION OF B STATIONS.
UNSUCCESSFUL NEGOTIATIONS
u (By Telegraph—rre*s Association.) AUCKLAND, Nov. 6. After unsuccessful negotiations with gramophone companies on behalf of the New Zealand Federation of 13 stations, the Itov. C. G. Scrimgeour returned from Sydney by the Wanganella this morning. He expressed the opinion that- the companies’ attitude lvas ouite reasonable, the only stumbling block being that the B stations had no means of earning revenue and were unable to meet the claims. “The companies point out. that the fact that we cannot earn revenue is not their concern,” lie said. “How- . .ever, in the event of conditions gov- - orning the present restrictions on B stations being altered, 7. am sure that no difficulties will be encountered in negotiating a satisfactory agreement. Failing such, the companies will take court proceedings to secure an injunction against those who infringe their rights.” Air Scrimgeour was interested in a multi-recording system which uses films for recording. It is an Australian patent. Eight tracks of sound are recorded on one strip of' film, and it is possible to get over an hour’s programme from 1000 feet. Fie said that it would not be long before radio programmes were bought just as screen programmes are now bought. Referring to television, he said that when it came it would necessitate extreme reorganisation and for a long time it would be a very expensive innovation for broadcasting stations h
