HAWERA TRACK NOTES
THIS MORNING’S WORK
WAIKATO CANDIDATES GALLOP
TRACK HEAVY AFTER RAIN,
(By “Childers.’’)
After the heavy rain which has fallen during the past few days the tracks at Hawera are rather heavy, and for this morning’s work the outside of the course proper was soft and rather slopjjy. Galloping, however, was of an extremely interesting nature, practically all of the Waikato candidates being allotted serious tasks. Glenthawn (Galbraith) covered half a mile evenly in 57 l-ssee., putting plenty of dash info his task. This halfbrother to Omeo is now coming to hand rapidly. Euri (Howe) went very fast over the early stages of six furlongs, but he tired badly in the straight to register 1.23 2-5. He did not seem to find the track to his liking and was labouring at the close.
Alchemic (Sheild) was half a length in front of Aga Khan (Cole) over five furlongs in a shade under 1.10. Both horses were going nicely at the close and could have improved slightly on this time. Alchemic showed no signs of lameness, being suited by the easy going." Aga Khan has gone on the right way. since Waverley and should be greatly improved by the outing. If taken north for the Waikato Cup he should not be without prospects, as he usually runs well on this course. Bantry (Cole) jumped away unaccompanied from the five furlong peg, ■but was picked up at the three by Waiongona (O’Oonnel). The latter ran right away from her companion to finish several lengths to the good. Her time for three furlongs was 41see., while Bantry occupied 1.114 for five. Waiongona shaped attractively, hitting out very freely. She continues to make steady progress in her preparation. Bantry did not impress, working in a lazy manner. He is a most erratic performer on the tracks. Supreme Court (Sheild) did not have much pace on early, but came home in great style to record 1.23 2-5 for six furlongs. It was a useful effort for a maiden.
Ned -Cuttle (Sheild) occupied 26 3-5 see. for the last two of three furlongs down the back stretch, putting plenty of dash into his task.
Princess Gowrie (Howe) traversed six furlongs at working gallop pace in 1.294.
Ingenuity (Howe) was- also allotted a working gallop over six furlongs, covering the distance in 1.284. Dombey (Grindlay) and Autumn Leaf (Grylls) were on terms at the end of a smart sprint oyer three furlongs in 39 l-ssec. Both show signs of improvement since racing at Waverley. - They will probably race next at the approaching Feilding fixture. International (Howe) and Galteemore (Sheild) sprinted two furlongs together down the back stretch in 28sec. Useful pachwork was done by Sylvanus, March Alone, Clembroney, Friesland, -Carfex, Gold Gleam, 'Shemseh, Notium, Master Liinond, Soloist, Panloff, Topthorn, Brilliancy, Kentucky Song and Gold Gleam.
