Foot Conscious Britons

Six Pairs of Shoes a Year

(From Our Own Correspondent —By Air Mail.) LONDON, Oct. i2.

Britain is the most foot-conscious nation of the Old World, according to the organisers of the Shoe and Leather Fair, now in full swing in London. With the exception of the United States, Great Britain buys more shoes per foot than any other country. Women are said to buy an average of six pairs each per year; men buy slightly fewer. Leading manufacturers of fashion shoes have declared war on tlm “pirates.” New designs in shoes have hitherto been copied and marketed almost immediately in inferior qualities. Mow each new design is to be patented and will bear a registered number. Shoe colours this year are romantic. Egg-plant, wine rose, berry bloom, pink lilac cassowary blue are among the new autumn colours for women’s footwear. Men will bo able to choose among “Spaniel pan,” “vintage brown,” greyhound” and “hempcord.’'

Over 30,000 pairs of boots and shoes xre on show at the fair.
