Talk on Fire Prevention
At the monthly meeting of the Patea Women’s Institute last week Mrs A. A. Carey presided and there was a good attendance of members. The president welcomed Mrs Lauerx as a new member and visitors from Taihape, Halcolmbe and Manutalii. The arts and crafts circle reported that marquetry had been undertaken last month and would be continued this mouth.
The garden circle reported that members planted potatoes in Queen Mary Reserve. A business meeting would be held this month at Mrs S. Gunn’s residence, after which members would visit the vicarage grounds.
The president reported tha’fc xho drama festival held on Monday proved most •successful aixd she thanked the players, and especially Mrs Maswell and Miss Hemingway and those who had worked behind the scenes, Mrs C. H. Carey for making a bouquet for Miss Kirkpatricks and all who attended the function.
A vote of thanks to Mrs Carey for her work as organiser was carried by acclamation.
It was decided to ask Miss D. Corrigan (Hawera) te address the February meeting on the League of Nations. The attention of the Patea Borough Council is to bo drawn to tlie need for stipulating that all vendors of milk in the borough should have their herds tested for tuberculosis.
Fire Brigade Supei-intendent A. Morrison (Hawera) gave a most interesting and instructive address on fire prevention and was aecoi’ded a vote of thanks. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses. Mosdanies Gardiner, L. Honeyfield, Chad, C. Carey, T. Anderson and G. Lithgow and Miss Boagey. Miss L. Adams was awarded first in a summer salad competition.
