CRUIOUS SUPERSTITION

Hollywood is accustomed to curious superstitions among its celebrities, but it remained for Erik Charell, while" directing the magnificent musical romance, “Caravan,” for Eox Film, to introduce a new one. Scene 19 was being filmed. An assistant stepped in front of the camera with a slate. The director let out a yell. “Stop it! Hold it!” He pointed to the figures “Scene 19, Take 3.” “Those figures add up to 13,” he continued. Please change that 3 to a 4. or we will never get this scene.” The “take” number was

accordingly changed, and the scene was filmed—and proved to be perfect. “Caravan,” which will open a twonight season at the Grand Theatre on •Saturday, features Charles Boyer, Continental star, Loretta Young and Jean Parker.

More Horrors!

From the pages of Poe, siiadowed with mystery and horror, there rises the ghost of a bird to haunt audiences with a strange delight. “The Raven,” with its sombre symbolism and evil omen, presents that genius of make-up, Boris Karloff, and Bela Lugosi. “The Raven” is the talisman of a fiend who fives and lurks in a haunted house of horror, plotting torture for those who torture him. In love with a beautiful dancer, this madman saves her from death only to destroy her happiness. This maniac is played by Lugosi, and his unwilling assistant, Karloff, is a strange henchman, a man whose face is a crazy quilt of terror! The east includes Irene Were, Lester Matthews and Inez Courtnej'.
