FARMERS’ LIVING EXPENSES MORTGAGE STAY ORDERS M r NISTE Ri'S ASS UR ANC E. Misapprehension on the part ot iaimer mortgagors that an inadequate amount will he allowed them lor lining expenses under a stay ordei in accordance with the Rural Mortgagor:; Final Adjustment Act is not justified, according to the information contained in a letter received by the president of the New Zealand Farmers Union, Air W. J. Poison, M.P. t’oi Stratford, iiom the Alimstor of I‘inance, lit. lion. J. G• Coates. “1 can assure you that there is really no ground tor this fear, as 1 have been to some pains to have die matter brought under the notice of the Court of Review.” .said Air Coates, “and I am assured that, each ease will be considered on its merits, and a reasonable' allowance will, be provided for in the Budget. “The Court of Review and the Adjustment Commissioners have indicated that no standard can be laid down, as each case must be dealt* with according to its particular circumstances. I am further advised that, where the members of a, mortgagor's family are employed on the farm, it is the practice of the court to make allowance for this. “You,, can therefore assure the members of your organisation that- it is neither the policy of the Government, nor of those concerned with the administration of the legislation, that farmers working under stay orders shall be treated ungenerously in the matter of living expenses for themselves and their families.”
