TRADE WITH SWITZERLAND
EXCEPTION TO STATEMENTS. CONSUL’S EXPLANATION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 13. Exception to statements of the United Kingdom Manufacturers’ and New Zealand Representatives’ Association concerning the trade balance of New Zealand and Switzerland is taken by Dr. A- C. Blau, Auckland, consulgeneral for Switzerland, in a statement sent to the Mayor of Wellington. Figures had been quoted that while New Zealand bought £24,875 worth of goods from Switzerland in six months of this year Switzerland had bought £49 from New Zealand. Mr Blau explains that the figures are totally misleading as Switzerland has to irrqiort through other countries, a large portion of the trade being done through London, from which market Swiss buyers take a large amount of New Zealand produce. Figures kept in the case of Australia showed that the balance was heavily in favour of the latter and it was thought that the New Zealand figures when ascertained would give identical results.
