MANAIA SCHOOL AFFAIRS
SIX NEW PUPILS ADMITTED. PROGRESS IN BOTH DEPARTMENTS. i (From Our Own Correspondent.) Six new pupils were admitted to the primary department of the Manaia i school during the month, reported the headmaster (Mr J. Browning) at the monthly meeting of the committee this week. The rolls of the primary and secondary departments at the end of the month were, respectively, 215 and 44, the averages being 197 and 44, the rough weather accounting for the lower primary attendance. The term examinations revealed good progress in both departments. In the secondary division 12 received provisional senior free places and entries for November and December examinations are-as follows: University entries, three; lower leaving certificates, four; training college entrance, four; first section 8.A., one; intermediate, one. Macrocarpas and pines in the school gardens had been disposed of, the chairman having rendered great assistance. The proceeds should be in the vicinity of £5. Dr. Mary Champtaloup visited the school and inoculated all Maori children, who were excluded for one week. Those present were: Air O. T. Parry (chairman), Rev. R. Aliller, Messrs V. Adlam, J. Crompton, P. Instone and J. Laursen. It was decided to engage a man for trimming the hedges. Messrs Parry and Butler were elected • a visiting committee for the month.
