Typhoid Epidemic Thought to Have Been Checked ALL PRECAUTIONS TAKEN. STRICT VIGILANCE EXERCISED Hopes are entertained by officers of the Department of Health that, with all the precautionary measures adopted in the past week or so, the outbreak of typhoid among South Taranaki Maoris at last lias been checked. Strict vigilance is being exercised, however, in the districts which have constituted the two, latest suspected cases of the disease. At the Hawera- public hospital there have been no further developments and no additional cases have been admitted. Only one of the original IS patients is considered to be in a serious condition. The remainder have made satisfactory progress towards recovery and seven await their discharge from the institution on receipt .of negative reports from bacteriological tests.
