ALTON SCHOOL AFFAIRS

CLASSROOM OVERTAXED. (From Our Own Correspondent). Classroom accommodation at the Alton School is taxed to more than full capacity. Of the 71 children enrolled, 40 are in .the senior room. At the recent monthly meeting of th.e committee there were present Messrs A. J. Gibbs (chairman), A. Illingworth (secretary), H. Hodge, A. J. Leigh and P Goile, Mr Gibbs moved a motion of sympathy with Mr E. F. Hemingway in liia recent family bereavement and also with the family of the late Mr Amon, of the pioneers of the Alton district. On the motion of Mr Illingworth, seconded by Mr Gibbs, it was resolved that Mr Hodge -and Mr A* Sadler (headmaster) be appointed delegates to the Boys and Girls’ Club group at Waverley. The headmaster reported that calf entries were not as numerous as in previous years, 1 but sufficient to warrant entry and keep up interest in the competition. The home garden jptlot entries were more promising.
