SEA LION IN STREET

UNUSUAL. SCENE AT DUNEDIN. (By Telegraph—Press Association,/ DUNEDIN, Sept. 11. The occupants lof a fruit shop near the beach at St. Clair were aroused by a queer customer making a noise at their front door early this morning. On investigating they found outside a large sea lion which lias been an almost daily visitor to the beach •for the past few months. The visitor from the sea evidently decided this morning that ho would take a walk, and made his way up Beach Street to the St. Clair tram terminus, depositing his .bulky form on the tramline. He took little heed of the clanging of the gong of the car that was ready to leave for the city and had to be chased off before the vehicle could get under way. Before long a crowd of interested spectators arrived, and t]ie sea lion made his way along Bedford Street, dashing at times on to the road and then back on to the footpath. In the course of one of his excursions lie upset a young man on a bicycle, and seemed as much surprised at the commotion as the rider. After a further stroll up and down, during which he accepted some choice tit-bits from women and children, he evidently felt the caH of his natural element ,and made his way back to the. beach. Later in the morning, the visitor, who is becoming fairly tame, was soon accepting a drink of cordial out of a bottle.
