FAST EXHIBITION OF RUGBY TREVATHAN OUTSTANDING iCORE OF 15 POINTS TO SEVEN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) HAMILTON, Sept. 11. Playing improved football, the Waikato Rugby representatives in their first and only appearance at Hamilton this season put up a fine display to hold Otago to an eight points margin O’l Rugby Park to-day, the visitors winning by 15 points to seven. Otago gave a fine display of fast, open Rugby. Waikato held the visitors in the forwards and the backs tackled solidly throughout
Trevathan, first five-eighth lor Otago, played an outstanding game, scoring all blit three of the points and opening the way for another try. McFarland, the visiting full-back, reminded the spectators of Hemi, of the Maori team, liis perfect handling and long kicking being an important factor in Otago’s success. Russell, the Waikato half, played a more solid game than his vis-a-vis,. Saxton, although he lacked the latter’s polish. Carlson was always prominent in the Waikato attack. Leeson was the outstanding forward on the ground, and Green, McDonald and Quaide also impressed. Waikato was the first to score, Cameron drop-kicking a splendid goal from near the half-way line. It was not long before Otago retaliated, Tlevathan “dummying” cleverly to cross under the posts. The kick was charged down.
The game was fast and exciting, both teams throwing the ball about. Waikato was close to scoring twice, but Trevathan intercepted and kicked clear. Wa'ikato scored jut last when Cameron ran downfield and passed to Griffiths, who cut inside t.o score a great try. Carlson missed with the kick. The fast pace was maintained and shortly before lialf-timo Otago scored again. Trevathan broke through smartly and centred to McSkimming, who was pulled down on the line by ‘alhetb. .Saxton, came up /Smartly, picked up and dived over. Trevathan failed to convert and the half-time score was seven points to six in favour of Waikato.
In the second spell, which was also fast and .exciting, Trevaithaui dropkicked a goal and Green scored, Trevathan converting.
