Patea Bible Society

Concert for Branch Funds The Patea branch of British and Foreign Bible Society held a most successful concert in the town hall supper room on Monday night, when the proceeds were in aid of funds to procure pocket testaments for children in the Patea district who could not afford them. The programme included a violin solo by Miss R. Mawhinney; recitation, Miss Shirley Macken; d'uet Masters Gavin and Dick Carey ; dance, Pat ingley, Shirley Macken, Gw«n Ashby, Alison Jones and Hilary Herbert; song, Mr H._ Mawfeumey; chorus, Church of England Sunday' school children; songs, Mrs Ingley, Master Robin Haddow and Miss <J. Adams; recitation, Beryl Martin: songs, Miss Frances Jones and Mrs Ino-ley; duet, Masters Gavin and Dick Carey; recitation, Miss A. Stewart (Hawera); song, Miss Margaret Oowie; item, Misses M. and 1 Knowles; songs, Miss Frances Jones and Mr S. Pauling; play, Mere and There ” by Misses Margaret Covie, Crissie Bennie and Audrey Stewart. At the conclusion of the programme the Rev. Burnett apologised for the absence of the president, Mrs v\ • 1 Sheild, and thanked those present lor S W. H. Walton proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the performers and all who had helped t< make the evening a success. This was seconded by Mr Wilson.
