DARING BURGLARY

FIRE FOLLOWS THEFT PREMISES BADLY DAMAGED (By Telegraph —Press Association.) WHANGAREI, To-day. An outbreak of fire late last night at Julius Maurer’s jeweller’s shop in Cameron Street led to the revelation of a daring burglary, a number of valuable articles being taken. The intruders jemmied their way in through a window and a heavily-barred door. -The fire brigade found the shop floor bestrewn with articles of jewellery', and a smouldering mattress was alongside the door of the strong-room, which the thieves had failed to force, thereby' missing a rich haul of goods and a deposit of £l5O belonging to a radio dealer next door. Considerable damage was done to tho stock in the shop by fire, water and smoke.
