A further improvement is reported in the condition of Mervyn Gayler the 13-yenb-old schoolboy who, w'as admitted to the Hawera public hospital last week in a critical state following a collision on the South Road between Haw'era and Manaia.
The appointment of Dr. Elizabeth Gunn to represent the Health Department at the Melbourne conference of the British Medical was referred to by the chairman (Mr E. F. Hemingway) at last week’s monthly meeting of the Wanganui Education Board. He stated that Dr. Gunn, had done magnificent work in connection with the children’s health camps. She had been, witlr the board’s assistance, the’ pioneer of the health camp scheme for under-nourished children. The funeral of Leslie Verdun Pinny, 19-year-old son of Mr and Mrs W. L. Pinny, South Road, took place at Hawera. yesterday, when there was a large assembly of friends of the young man and his family, and many beautiful floral tributes were sent. The service at. the graveside was conducted by the Rev. B. Metson. Pall-bear-ers were Messrs. H. Pinny, V. McKain, B. Nicholas, J. Smith, Rt Eustace and D. Prestidge.
