COMMISSIONER’S POSITION

TO SUCCEED MR VERSCHAFFELT SMALL COMMISSION LIKELY. (By Telegram'll—Press Association.? CHRISTCHURCH, To-day, The replacement of ex-Public Service Commissioner Verschaffelt, who resigned from office recently, will shortly be considered by the Government, and it is ' possible that more than one man will be selected, and that a small commission will be established to carry on the work previously handled by the commissioner himself. Mr Forbes said last night that the Government had not discussed the position since his return from England, but that the replacement of Mr verschaffelt would have to be considered soon. , *

Mr Forbes also said the appointment of the administrator of Samoa to succeed Sir Herbert Hart had not yet been considered by the Cabinet. The matter was not urgent, however, as the position of administrator was being capably filled in the meantime by Mr A. C. Turnbull, formerly secretary to the administration.
