Waverley District Notes

Social and General Miss Mary Ritchie, of Dunedin, wore a pretty frock of rose crepe de chene patterned in grey and ■white when she was the guest of honour at Miss Amy Graham’s bridge party on Thursday afternoon. Others present were Mesdames Symes, J. Alexander (Maxwell), B. Horner (Singapore), Misses Parsons, Davidson, Train, M. and J. Alexander, Barrow, P. and H. Simmons, Roberts, Brewer, Walkinton and P. Graham. The prize winners were Mrs Symes, Misses P. Simmons and J. Parsons. To receive her guests the hostess chose a fitting gown of black silk velvet smartly trimmed with buttons and eggshell blue georgette. The drawing room at Awatea had been tastefully decorated with spring bulbs, rhododendrons, japorrica and canaedia. In the evening Mrs Wallace was hostess at three tables of bridge. Her bridge, frock was of black georgette patterned in primrose. Those present were Mr and Mrs W. Matthews, Mr and Mrs C. J. Dickie, Mr and Mrs Hodgson, Mrs Stauchon, Mr and Mrs Graham, Mr W. Alexander. Mrs Graham and Mr Dickie received prizes for top scores.

Miss if. Hopkinson left this week with Mr and Mrs W. McL’Dowie, of Hawera, for Helensville. Mrs Cowan, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs W. J. Matthews, is now in Wellington. Miss N. Davidson is spending a few days as the guest of Miss Amy Graham. Miss Pattle, who lias been Mrs Matthews’ guest, is visiting Masterton before returning to Oamaru.
