. Two further members of the Hawera Radio Society, Messrs. Dufresne and. Downes, have gained amateur transmitting licenses. Four members of the society have now gained their certificates within twelve months. The death ts reported by a London cable of Sir Reginald Macleod, aged 88, 24th chief of the Macleod Clan. He was a director of the Shell Transport and Trading Company and chairman of the Gresham Life Assurance Company. He was registrar-general for England and Wales in 1900-2 and Un-der-Secretary for Scotland in 1902-8. Mr R. H. Nesbit, resident Australian Trade Commissioner, and Mr J. Payne, his assistant, left Hawera yesterday afternoon for Dawson Falls, where they will spend the week-end. Delegates at the North Island Motor Union Conference in New Plymouth yesterday paid tribute to the services rendered to motoring in general and the union in particular by Mr W. A. O’Callaghan (Hawera), who was unanimously re-elected president. Mr O’Callaghan had contributed a great deal to the smooth running of the union’s affairs, it was stated, and by this fact and intimate knowledge of affairs, had won the respect of all. Mr O’Callaghan replied.

According to an announcement made by Mr G. W. Hutchison (Auckland) at yesterday’s conference in New Plymouth of the North Island Motor Union Sir Stenson Cook, secretary of the British Automobile Association, will visit New Zealand in February on a. 20 clays’ tour of the Dominion. So far as his travelling was concerned he was to 'be the guest of the Auckland Association, but Mr Hutchison thought the other associations might co-operate in providing some suitable form of reception and entertainment while Sir Stenson was in the Dominion. Following his New Zealand visit lie was going to Australia and India. His visit was principally a holiday one, but it would be to the advantage of the associations to arrange some means for their members meeting Sir Stenson during the visit. Several of the representatives offered to assist in the matter and said their members would welcome th© opportunity of meeting the visitor.
