Herbert Marshall and Carole Lombard will be featured together in a Paramount picture, “Honours Are Even.” *****
Harold Lloyd has temporarily forsaken his 12-year career as the independent producer of his own screen comedies and has signed a contract with Paramount to star in that company’s film production of the stage success, “The Milky Way.” :j: # Grace Moore’s latest picture, “Love Me Forever,” will shortly be released. As a result of his performance Michael Bartlett, who plays opposite Miss Moore, has been given a long-term contract by Columbia and has been cast opposite Claudette Colbert. *** ' * * “Bulldog Jack,” a Gaumont-British picture, shows Jack Hulbert in a Bulldog Drummond role, which he plays in a mock-serious fashion. Fay AVray is the leading lady, the cast also including Claude Hulbert and Ralph Richardson.
Chaplin has finished actual production of his new comedy, now entitled “Street Waif.” But the editing will take time, and the picture will not lie ready for preview for another three months. Then Chaplin intends to write and direct another - film, featuring Paulette Goddard. * # * * *
Maureen O’Sullivan will go to England shortly to play in “Soldiers Three,” the Gaumont-British production, the preparation of which Mr Rudyard Kipling himself supervised. C. Aubrey Smith will also appear in an important part in this picture, which will he directed by Walter Forde. >?. :\i * * *
Warner Brothers are negotiating for the screen rights of “The Petri fed Forest,” Robert Sherwood’s play in which Leslie Howard is at present appearing on Broadway. Warners have offered £23,000, hut still have not got it. If they do, Leslie Howard will repeat his stage performance in the film * * » * *
Several Hollywood stars have come to England for work on films for Gaumont-British. They include Tom Mix, who will appear in “The Tunnel,” a production in which Madge Evans is also starred; and C. Aubrey Smith and Maureen O’Sullivan, who will appear in “Soldiers Three,” based on Rudyard Kipling’s story. * * * * *
In the seven pictures which Marlene Dietrich has made for Paramount her leading men have been Gary Cooper, Emil Jannings, dive Brook, Herbert Marshall, Brian Aherne. John Lodge, and Victor McLaglen. In her eighth, “Carnival in Spain,” which is now under production, Cesar Romero and Lionel play opposite her. She has thus not had the same lead Kir man for more than one film. * * * * * Signor Toscanini, the famous conductor vdio is in London conducting a series of concerts for the British Broadcasting Corporation at a fee of £2OOO, recently saw a private screening of “The Band Concert,” Walt Disney’s first '“Mickey Mouse” in colour. Describing it as “genius, nothing less,” he demanded to see it a second time, expressed'a desire to meet Walt Disney, and invited him to his home on Lake Maggiore.
