ENTERTAINMENTS
TALKIE ATTRACTIONS OPERA HOUSE “A LADY’S MORALS.” Grace Moore, latest importation from grand opera to the taliring picture held, has not only brought a great voice and a charming. personality to the screen,' but has given talkie fans an entirely new type of entertainment. In her Metro-Gold wynMayer picture, “A Lady’s Morals,” she brings to life again one of the greatest celebrities in the art of song, Jenny Lind. It is a vivid, romantic drama of the love of a great singer and the tragedy underlying it. Woven into the tale are beautiful songs, sung as essential dramatic details in the plot. The music ranges from original compositions. such as simple love songs, to the great operatic numbers in which Jenny Lind triumphed during her brilliant career. The singer’s love for the composer, her dehut in New York under the auspices of P. T. Barnum, and other dramatic details, many of them authentic, make this picture interesting as a bit of history as well its a piece of entertainment. Miss Moore plays the difficult role oi “Jenny Lind” with a finely balanced sense of the dramatic, while ■her superb singing of Carrie Jacobs Bond’s “Lovely Hour,” Oscar Straus’ “It is Destiny,” Herbert Stothart’s “Oh! Why,” the operatic “Casta Diva” from “Norma,’’ and an aria from “Daughter of the Regiment,” alone set this picture apart from the ordinary run of screen fare. The work of the supporting cast is excellent throughout. “A Lady’s Morals,” will be presented to-night and to-morrow at the Opera House. GRAND THEATRE—TO-NIGHT, “RUMBA.”
In response to the universal acclaim that greeted their first appearance together in “Bolero,” George Raft and Carole Lombard are again co-starred in a picture based on a dance thetoe. It is Paramount’s “Rumba,” which comes to the Grand Theatre to-night for a two-night season. The plot of “Rumba” is based oil the love-story of Raft, a Broadway dancer exiled to Havana by threats ot gang vengeance, and Caz-ole Lombard, a beautiful and impetuous heiress.
