ACCOUNIANT’S SUICIDE DOCTOR WITNESSES TRAGEDY EARLIER MEETING OF CREDITORS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) j AUCKLAND, Aug. 15. A few hours after a meeting ol creditors had been held to discuss liis financial position an elderly man, William Henry Terry, an accountant' who resided at Epsom, Avalked into Jlanukau Harbour near the southern end of the Mangere bridge this afternoon. Ho was seen to. sAvim out into the channel and then to be carried along by a swiftly flowing current. A subsequent search for his body proved unsuccessful.
Terry was first observed by Dr TV. HoAvard Thomas, Onehunga, Avho has been attending him at intervals for about 15 years. Dr Thomas was motor lag from Mangere to Onehunga, and Avhen he was about to drive over the bridge he saAV Terry standing near the water’s edge with a dog at his heels. He drove on, but on looking back after he had travelled a. short distance he saAV that Terry Avas taking off his overcoat. The suspicions of Dr Thomas Avere immediately aroused, and he turned his car round and drove back to the Mangere end of the bridge. For a time he lost sight of Terry, but finally he saw Terry had been sAA-ept .underneath the bridge and Avas SAvimming strongly out into the channel. Dr Thomas immediately called out to him, but Terry, beyond looking up and nodding in recognition of the call, continued to s\A'im out into the haibour. By this time the current had taken Terry and Avas carrying him along rapidly. Searches proved fiuitless. Dr Thomas had no doubts concerning the identity of the man. Avhom he savv walk into the Avater. He said ffeiry had recently been in poor health.
