MR VERSHAFFELT BACK
Wishes to “Hear Nothing, See Nothing and Say Nothing” EX-PUBLIC COMMISSIONER NOW A PRIVATE CITIZEN (By Telegraph—Tress Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. Refusing to see a newspaper representative who wished to interview him on his return to New Zealand this morning, Mr Paul \ orscll2lffolt-, until 3* few weeks ago Public Service Commissioner, sent a message by his- secretary that he wished to “hear nothing, see nothing and say nothing.” “Mr Verschaffelt has returned as a private citizen,” stated his secietary. “Ho desires to make no statement. Mr Verschaffelt has been Public Service Commissioner since 1922, and he accompanied Mr Coates when he- went abroad in April to take part in the meat negotiations in England and other business on the Continent and the United States. Shortly after the arrival of the party in England Mr Verschaffelt’s resignation was announced. ,
Mr Verschaffelt was a passenger on the Port Fairy, which arrived at Lyttelton from London this morning. He was met by Mr McNamara (Director of Postal Services) and will leave for Wellington this evening.
