Bail was fixed at £2OOO in each ease when Lawrence Edward Din (or Dean), aged 23, and Madeline Elizabeth Din were remanded to-day on the charge of conspiring to defraud the Post Office Savings Bank at Auckland of £IBSO. The police prosecutor strongly opposed the granting of bail, saying there was every reason to believe the accused would attempt to abscond. He suggested that bail be fixed at £SOOO at least. It was known that money had been sent by draft to Australia under fictitious names, and both the accused had been booked on the Wanganella under fictitious names.
Counsel for . the accused asserted that there was nothing against the accused but suspicion.
