ADVANCES 9d LB. BUTTER-FAT
HELLS’ 1934-35 SEASON PAYOUT POOR ENGLISH CHEESE AFFECTS PRICE, Advance payments over the past season averaged 9d per lb. butterfat, but there was still a quantity oSf cheese to soil, and until it was realised it would not be possible to compute the final payment, stated Air. C. J. Hawken, chairman of directors, at yesterday’s annual meeting of shareholders of the Alells Co-operatTve Dairy Company held privately at Alokoia. It was anticipated, however, that there would be a further substantial amount for distribution. In a review of the season’s activities, Air . Hawken touched bn - some aspects of the overseas; marketing of dairy produce, and said that the largo quantity of poor quality factory-made English cheese being placed ‘on the market and sold for as little as 4d per lh. was to a large extent responsible for the low level of prices still obtaining in England for New. Zealand cheese. Although New Zealand cheese was of a much better quality, the fact that such a large quantity of the inferior English article was finding its way on to the market must have had a depressing effect on prices generally. The retiring directors, Alessrs. T. E Bickford, T. Hey and G. Milne, were re-elected unopposed. Air. H. A_ Lennon was re-appointed auditor. Appreciation was expressed, of the services of tlie factory staff .find secretary (Mr. A. K. Fyson), . At a subsequent meeting of directors Air. Hawken was re-elected chairman. ... . ■ -A .■ •
