For health reasons Mr J. T. Belcher, Stratford County representative on the East Committee! of the Eginoht National Park Board, resigned from the committee last night. Mr Belcher was one of the original members of the present committee. Captain John Rleid, of the Salvation Army Boys’ Home at Eltham, was tendered a farewell, evening in the Salvation Army Hall on Monday night. Adjutant Smith presided over a large attendance of members of the Army and the general public. An enjoyable programme of musical items comprised the major portion of the evening. Adjutant Erioson made eulogistic reference to the sterling qualities of Captain Reid, his faithfulness to duty, as an officer of the home, and his splendid service as a bandsman and soldier of the Eltham Corps. Bandmaster A. Towers and Sergeant-Major Jenkins also added their tributes as to the qualities of Captain Reid. Captain Rigid suitably replied. There was a large and representative attendance at the funeral of Mr James Gibbs at Patea yesterday. The cortege, which left Mr Gibbs’ late residence at Alton, was the largest seen in the district. Services at the house and at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. W. H. Wilson. Mr R. J. Watt, a. member of the Patea County Council, referred to the community service Mr Gibbs had given ,to the Alton district and. also to the wider field of the Patea county. The pall-bearers were grandsons of Mr Gibbs—Messrs. J. Gibbs, L. and S. Scown, G., J. and E. Taylor. Many floral tributes were recieved from institutions with which Mr Gibbs had been associated, and from friends and relatives.
