MR. COATES HAS BUSY TIME
HECTIC BOUND OF CALLS. LAST-MINUTE CONFERENCES. Frees Association- —By JElecfcno Telegraph Oopy right.) Received 10 a-m. to-day. LONDON, July 21. The Rt. Hon. Mr J. G. Coates had an extremely busy time during his fast three or four days in London, the last day being particularly hectic. In the morning before 9 o’clock he had a. conference with representatives of Australia and South Africa in regard to proposals to improve consumption and the market outlook for wool. He then proceeded to Tooley Street, where, at the office of the New Zealand Dairy Board, he met a number of representatives of the butter trade and discussed matters of moment. His next engagement was at the Board of Trade, where he had important discussions regarding future trade relations with certain foreign countries, especially in view of the recent customs proposals by one nation. Late in the afternoon he had a three-hour talk with Major Elliot, having the previous day had a similar engagement with Mr Baldwin at Downing Street. Then at 11 p.m. he had a final halfhour conference with, the New Zealand Meat Board representatives, and just before midnight saw a deputation of persons interested in the promotion of the construction of the Napier-Gis-borne railway, headed by Mr Lysnar. His departure from Waterloo Station was at 9 the next morning. A large crowd of New Zealanders and British Government representatives fareweiied the Minister and Mrs Coates and heartily cheered them as the train pulled out.
