AUSTRALIA v. ENGLAND. TURNBULL STRIKES FORM. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright). Received 11.45 a.m. to-day. LONDON, July 19. At Eastbourne, in the tennis matches, England v. Australia, Quist and Turnbull were defeated in the doubles by Hughes and Tuckcy, 3—6, 6—3, 8--6, 6—l. Turnbull was the best of the four and lie served and smashed with savage accuracy. The Australians were generally super iter in both volleying and smashing. Tucker. England’s new Davis Cup recruit, is playing much bettor with experience. He is serving powerfully gnd his ground strokes have improved.
FINANCIAL SUCCESS. Received 11.45 a. lll. to-dav. LONDON, July 19. Harry H.opman, writing in the “Sun” on tennis subjects, says the Australians’ tour has been a financial success. The profits without the Eastbourne match, where most of the seats are ste.ld, should approach £2OOO. The New Zealand tie yielded £IOO, the French £2500 and the German £9OO.
