PATEA COURT JUDGMENTS. UNDEFENDED CIVIL ACTIONS. (From Our Own Correspondent). Judgment for plaintiff by default was given; in the following civil cases by the magistrate (Mr J. H. Salmon) in the Patea. Magistrate’s Court on Thursday:. Patea. Butchery Co. Ltd. v. Frank Tliame, £7 9s 3d; Dr. W. T. Simmons v. Roy Walker, £1 14s 6d; Patea. County Council v. Lewis Charles Goodson, £7O 4s lid. On. a judgment summons R. Wigmore was ordered.to pay R. A. Adams Ltd. £S 8s 6d, in default eight days’ imprisonment. Similarly R. M. Willis was ordered to ipay Ellis Bros. £4 7s Gd, in default four days imprisonment. BREACH OF' REGULATIONS. E. Reed was charged on the information of the Inspector of Factories that on May 21 at Patea, as the occupier of a shop, he failed to keep a wage and time book in respect to the employment of F. Fitz water, D. Cleaver and S. Kirkman. A plea, of guilty was entered, and Reed was convicted and ordered to pay costs 10s and witness’ expenses 10s. The same defendant also was charged that on May 21 at Patea, being an employer of labour, he deducted from the wages paid to V. Anderson, F’. Fitzwater, S. Kirkman, A. HE. Peterson, Ru Reid and D. Cleaver the emergency unemployment charge prescribed b3 r section 12 of the Unemployment Amendment Act, 1931, and failed to pay that charge in the prescribed manner contrary to regulations 13 (3) of the Unemployment Relief Tax Regulations, 1931. Defendant pleaded guilty. Mr O. Ri. Collins, for the department, explained that defendant had the money set aside in tihe safe for the amount of stamps required, but had failed to obtain stamps for a period of two months. He was convicted and fined £2 and costs 10s.
