Croquet Club At the annual meeting of the Manaia Croquet Club, held in the Presbyterian Hall at Manaia on Friday, there were present Mesdames J. W. Snowdon (president), McDonald, Clngue, Rodie, Meuli, Vine, Browning, Anton, Harrison and Hoibday. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Long, Cryer and Christie. The past season proved most enjoyable to all, the particularly dry season enabling players to spend more time than usual on the lawns, stated the annual report. The opening day was held earlier than had been tbo custom for several years and many neighbouring club members were present and competitions were enjoyed by -all. "Unfortunately, very few 'outside matches were played, but the club hoped to be able to arrange more next season, as it was considered they were a great help to members when taking part in tournament play. Several members' took part in the Hawera and New Plymouth tournaments. The club entered, players foi the Campbell and McL’Dowio Cups and also for the New Zealand Council silver buttons, but owing to the change of place in playing-off for these great difficulty arose as to transport, and one player had to forfeit. Two club competition days were held, and both proved very successful. The club was very much indebted to Mrs Armitage for her generosity to the club in allowing members the use of her lawn throughout the season, and also for many other acts of kindness. The members thanked Mrs A. H. Christie for her generous donation of a silver cup for play among junior players, the cup being won this year by Mrs Rodie .. and the Meuh Cup by Mrs Instone One of the club lawns had been levelled and resown, the work being capably carried out by Mr S. Blair, who also undertook to look after it until the beginning of next season. The club handed £lO to the tennis club towards the cost of work on No. - lawn. Thanks were extended to all those who gave trophies during the season, or helped in any ot | le * for the advancement of the club. Thai ft by Mrs Meuli of a large compartment‘for holding the property of the club was acknowledged. In the election of officers Mrs Snow-, don did not seek re-election as president and Mesdames Hobday and J. Browning eulogised the good work o the retiring president. Officers elect _u were as follow: President, Mrs J. Browning; vice-president, Mrs 01a"ue; secretary and treasurer, M s V H. Hobday; auditor, Mr G. Meulijj general committee, Mesdames Christie Snowdon, Vine, McDonald and officers "ex officio. Mrs Meuli was again appointed captain and Mesdames Snowdon and Hobday delegates to the South Taranaki Croquet Association. Airs J. Rodie was appointed to take charge of the ladder for the coming sSn.
