Patea Members Meet
A meeting of the Patea Women’s Institute committee was held on Tuesday evening, Mrs A. A. Carey presiding. Also present wore Mesdames W. 11. Walton, L. T. Adams, S. Gunn, W. Ingley, R. S. Crawford, R. E. Moore, G. Laing, I. Jones, .Miss F. Hemingway and the honorary secretary (Mrs V. White). An invitation was received from the Opalcu Women’s Institute to attend its birthday social and dance in the Opaku Hall on July 10. The New Zealand Forest and Native Bird Protection Society wrote enclosing a petition for signatures by those interested and requesting that the matter be given attention immediately. It was decided to ask Mrs Ballard, who is a member of the society, to circulate the petition among members. The secretary reported that £4 had been forwarded to the pool in connection with travelling expenses of delegates to the Dominion conference.
The New Zealand Blind Institute wrote asking if the institute would again sell its ware at an institute meeting this year. It was agreed that it would not be advisable to comply w-ith the institute’s request this year, as a locial blind person is now- selling Blind Institute ware as a livelihood.
The president reported that she had written to Miss Jerome Spence, the founder of the Women’s Institute in New Zealand, and asked her if she could visit Patea :in the course of her Taranaki visit. Miss Spence had replied stating that -she would endeavour to arrange la visit. Should Miss Spence visit Patea, it was decided to invite the Kakarnmea and Opaku Institutes to be present.
The following new members were elected: Mesdames W. D. Davies, N. Mitchell, G. Lithgow-, W. D. Knowles and T. J. Scott.
