Miss M. Hawken, who has been visit ing Wellington, returned last Tuesday

Mrs Pt O. Yeale, who has been spending a week in Wellington, is expected to return this evening.

Miss Vera McCarthy, of Gisborne, who has been spending a holiday in Hawera, left yesterday morning on her return to Gisborne.

Mrs D. Smith, of Fraser Road, Hawera, and Mrs H. Corbett were the guests of -Mr and Mrs A. W. King at Autoa for the Bigham-King wedding. ■

Wearing, a modish frock of -dark Brbwn lace, .Mrs H. M. Caselberg entertained on Monday afternoon, when -Mesdames H. D. Gaplcn, G. Mann, T. F. •McKenzie, H. S. McWilliam, V. Powell (Auckland) and- E. R. Bavin were the guests at tea. .

,In order to celebrate the engagement of their daughter Ella, Mr and Mrs J. B. Saunders, Nolantown, welcomed a number of friends to their home on Monday. The evening was spent in. playing cards and dancing. Mr and •Mrs W. A. Spragg won prizes for the most. car,d games. Mrs Saunders received her guests wearing a. smartly fashioned gown of rich wine chenille velvet, Miss Ella Saunders’ frock being of lotus blue georgette. The guests included Mesdames Spragg, Kennedy, Howell, Misses S. Saunders, X. Spragg, M. Adamson, M. McDonald (Stratford), P. and I. Hqdge (Alton).
