LOYAL UNION LODGE
MANCHESTER UNITY 1.0.0. F. ADDRESS AT FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Union Lodge, Manchester Unity of Oddfellows, was held in the Carlton tearooms at Hawera. last* Tuesday evening. N.G. Sister E. S. Tippett presided and there was a good attendance of members and visitors. One new member was .proposed. Bro. C. Allen reported on the banquet held at New Plymouth on June 19 by the Loyal Excelsior Lodge.
It was decided to hold a combined church parade at the- Methodist Church on July 7, members to meet at the Carlton rooms at 6.30 p.m. N.G. Sister Tippett reported on the sick members and Bro. C. Dingle, on behalf of the lodge, congratulated the secretary (Bro. R. S. Sage) on being j restored to health and being able to continue Jus work again. An interesting lecture was given, by Bro. V. M. Gerrand, P.G., on the subject of “Can Diamonds bo Made.” He traced many attempts and spoke of many claims to success, but until recent years those claims were proved to be failures by modem science. Modern science had manufactured diamonds, but the prohibited cost did not make the undertaking a commercial proposition.
After the close of the lodge a ping pong .tournament was held. loyal eltham lodge. (From Our Own. Correspondent). The iortnightly meeting of the Loyal •‘.ltham Lodge was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall at Eltham. Bro. Woodley presided and there was a. good attendance. i The balance-sheet of the Stratford Friendly Societies’ Hospital Association was presented and revealed a sound i position. A proposal to make certain altera- 1 tions to the lodge hall was discussed at some length and a committee was set up to go fully into the question. Arrangements were put in hand for the lodge annual social and dance, to be held on July 15. Lodge euchre tournaments held to date have been very successful. It was decided that a reduction bo made in the tariff for the hall. A suggestion that an orchestral stage be elected in the hall met with approval and it was resolved that the work be put in hand. During the meeting one now member was initiated and several new mem-j hers were proposed.
