PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ RUGBY

Annual North v. South Match at Hawera WON BY THREE POINTS The annual Rugby fixture between the North and South Taranaki primary schools, played at Hawera this afternoon as a curtain-raiser to the Taranaki-Wellington match, resulted in a win for the northern representatives by three points to nil. In the first spell, which ended three points to nil in favour of tho northern side, tho advantage lay more often than not with that team. What opportunities did arise for the southerners they did not take advantage of, and it was not that they were lacking. Territorilly, in the second spell tlie advantage in the opening stages was more in favour of the southerners, hut they were not ablo to make uso of it. The northern side broke through finally and tho backs instituted some lino passing rushes, but the movement was only a passing phase, and the return to tlio southerners’ quarter was quickly made. Tho northern team, however, was not ablo to score, and it was gradually forced back to tbe southern twenty-five, where play remained for some minutes. Play, however, was again transferred to the northerners’ twenty-five, where, amid tense oxcitement, the southerners were nearly over several times. Play was back in midfield when tho final whistle sounded without further score.
