BARING HEAD LIGHTHOUSE

USE FOR THE FIRST TIME (By Telegraph—i rcss Association.) WELLINGTON, dune 17. The new light placed on lipring Head to aid mariners entering and leaving Wellington harbour was used for the iirst. time to-niglit. It replaces the Pern-arrow light, the lirst lighthouse erected in New Zealand, which was extinguished at sunrise this morning. At a ceremony this afternoon Airs Riddiford. whose husband donated the 27 acres on which the new lighthouse stands, set the mechanism ready for use. The Government was represented at the ceremony by the Hon. J. G. Cobbe and the Hou. J. Bitchener.
