MEAT NEGOTIATIONS

Feeling That British Ministry is Not Facing Responsibilities DOMINIONS DISSATISFIED NEW ZEALAND’S DEMANDS (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright). Received 12 noon to-day. LONDON, June 17. The Australian Press Association learns that all the Dominion representatives are most dissatisfied with, the meat discussions. Only two plenary sessions have been held since the complete delegations arrived. .Everyone is chafing at the delays in getting down to “tin tacks,” though the British Ministers pleaded first the preoccupation because of the Ministerial reconstruction, and later the Whitsun Parliamentary recess. The Dominion representatives point out that the changes have not affected the British negotiations, and there is a feeling that the British Ministry is not facing its responsibilities adequately, apparently being quite willing for the Dominion delegates to depart, leaving the vital problem unsettled. New Zealand persists in her unshakable objection to the principle of levies on the Dominions' foodstuffs, though she stands alone in that attitude. She w r ill demand quid pro quo for her acceptance of it in the shape of ia: five years’ agreement, affording a reasonable period of stability, and British acceptance of responsibility in enforcing a limitation of shipments, for which she will press for an Empire board in London to control the situation.
