Egmont - Wanganui
The Egmont-Wanganui hunt met at {Whenuakura on (Saturday, Avhere the properties of 51essrs J. Shenhan, Goaver and Calendar had-been Avell prepared for hunting, but the day’s sport Avas very disappointing, runs being few and far between. Big gorse fences with ditches on both sides, proA'ided stiff jumps, Avhich Avere relished by those Avith experienced horses. Sca - - !eral hares Avere put up fluring the afternoon, but most of them took to cover in the gullies, AA'here they soon made good their escape. During one run a- good deal of country avus covered, but owing to ploughed paddocks and young grass intervening, there was very little jumping. A meeting of the committee of the Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Club was held on Friday, those present being Messrs J. E. Palmer (chairman), S. G. Davidson. D. Lupton, T. -Lupton, R. and G. Watkins, G. Aiken, S. ATcßiae, N. and T. Parsons, S. B'csloy and Dr. Simmons.
The secretary notified the committee of the receipt of the £'2oo left to the dub under the will of the late Mr Oscar Byrnes. There was some discussion on the question of the club’s representation at the meeting of the Xcw Zealand Hunts’ Association, and it was decided to send a. delegate if possible. The subject arose as to where the point-to-point meeting should be held and it was finally decided to hold it over the usual course, on the property of Messrs. J. Lupton, Paddison and Farr. The usual three steeplechase events will be held, also a pony race, a ladies’ jumping competition and the addition of a pony jumping competition was made to the programme. This will take place on Saturday, July 2 r Mr X. Parsons was appointed clerk of the*course. Dr. Simmons judge of the steeplechase events, Messrs. S. Mcßae, D. Jackson and W. Hunter judges of -the Indies’ jumping competition”, Messrs. T. Parsons. R. Watkins and S. Bosley judges of the pony jumping competition, Messrs. D. Impton and E. IT. Davidson handicappers, and Mr I. Lupton starter. Several outside nominations already have been received and it is hoped that local huntsmen will give the meeting their whole-hearted support.
