The quarterly meeting of provincial delegates of the Girl Guides’ Association was held at Hawcra on Saturday in the Hawcra Women’s Club. Twentyfour delegates were present, the meeting being presided over by Mrs D. K. Morrison, provincial commissioner for Taranaki. Reports on the working of companies and packs were given by Mrs John Houston (divisional commissioner for South Taranaki), Mrs T. H. Watt (district commissioner), Mesdames P. Instone (Manaia), T. A. Prescott (Patea), A. J. Gibbs (Alton), J. Guy (Kaponga), R. X/. Barclay (Waifeara), A. E. Wiggins (New Plymouth) and Miss Mara Mackie .(Otakeho). The reports all showed an increase in numbers and a growing interest in the movement and its aims.
•Miss Spencer (Eltham) was present by invitation, and it was arranged to get in touch with representative ladies of the town with a view to forming a local association to administer the affairs of the proposed Guide company. A discussion on the present, division of the'province into north and south resulted in a recommendation that a further division be made to be known as central and to comprise Stratford, Toko, Kaponga and Eltham, commissioners to be appointed to further the work in these districts.
Afternoon tea and a general •discussion followed the meeting, Mrs Morrison expressing her pleasure at the large number of delegates 'and members of local associations who were present.
The following local associations sent representatives other than the delegates mentioned above: Hawera (Mesdames 11. T. Lovell and Alan Evans), Alton (Mesdames Burnand and Illingworth), Kaponga (Mrs J. Hessell), Otakelio (Mrs H. A. Nicholls), Opunake (Mrs Mareroft), Manaia (Mrs Hobday) and Miss Margaret 'Thomas (provincial secretary), New Plymouth.
