Braddock gained a surprise decision over Max Baer for the world’s heavyweight boxing championship. Baer and Braddock liict at the Madison Square Garden Bowl. Baer weighed 209£lbs. and Braddock lOlflbs. ns they entered the ring shortly after 10 p.m. Ringside betting made the champion the favourite, the odds ranging from light to one, to ten to one. The odds were the most uneven in the history if heavyweight championship bouts. The only comparison was Tunney’s six to one odds against Heaney. Despite the perfect weather the crowd was disappointingly small. The bowl, which is capable of holding 78,000 spectators, was not half filled. The 20 dollar ringside seats were comparatively more popular than the two dollars for general admission. John MacAvoy w r as named {he referee and Chalen Lynch and George Kelly were the judges.
