Park Lane Flat

Lady Mountbatten’s New Home (Our Own Correspondent—By Air Mail) LONDON, May 18. Lord and Lady Louis Mountbatten (Lord Louis Mountbatten accompanied the Prince of Wales oil his Australian tour) are to be the tenants of a magnificent “Penthouse” in Park Lane. The rent is £4200 a year. It occupies the highest two floors of the new Brook House, the block ot fiats built on the site or the mansion that bore that name. Lady Louis Mountbatten. inherited the original Brook House under the will of Sir Ernest Cassel, her grandfather. She sold it because of the expense of maintenance and high taxation. Now she will live in the new building there, eighty feet above Park Lane. Her home commands a new view of London. From the dining room the -spires of two Kensington churches are the only buildings visible. Another window looks on to Marble Arch’s traffic whirl and the busy crowds of Oxford Street. A private lift ascends from a private entrance in Upper Brook Street. No one can open the doors to leave the lilt at the end of its swift journeyten feet a second —unless, from the ground floor level, he has. previously telephoned to the butler. The butler 'walks to a- .special spot in the reception hall and there actuates, by his weight-, a floor switch, which allows the lift doors to open. Lord and Lady Louis Mountbatten, as well as callers, must observe this telephoning rule. It is a new burglai precaution.
