The directors of the Bank of England to-day resolved to reduco the bank rate from 2} per cent, to 2 per cent. * * * * * It is announced that the Admiralty has definitely adopted the Breman torpedo. which is the invention of an Australian engineer. * -1-- * * Nearly 300 election papers were issued at the Waimate Itoad Board office at Manaia yesterday, but 78 votes was the greatest number polled by any one candidate. This . shows that voters, as a rule, came down determined to return one or two members only to represent their particular part of the district, rather than vote for five candidates for the five vacancies. sp & * * A cable from Cairo says that arrangements for the evacuation of British headquarters at Bongola are now completed and the £rst detachment of troops left yesterday.
